Some signs and symptoms of obstructive sleep apnoea include excessive snoring, partner noticing you stop breathing and gasping during sleep, frequent visits to the bathroom at night, daytime tiredness, falling asleep during the day.
Some consequences of untreated snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea includes relationship breakdown and social embarrassment, impact on career, increased risk of motor vehicle accidents due to poor concentration , increased risk of heart attack, stroke and type 2 diabetes.
SomnoDent is a custom fitted splint, similar to a sports mouth guard, which is worn over the teeth. It works by holding the lower jaw forward to open the airway. It is recommended for use in patients with snoring and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnoea or in more severe cases where CPAP treatment is not well tolerated. Compared to CPAP machine, it has the advantage of being portable, comfortable, discreet and easy to use.
